(Fri 09 May 08) As mentioned in a previous story, Audi has updated the A3 for the 2009 model year, and the company has now confirmed the price structure for most of the cars in the line-up.
The range starts with the 1.6 petrol model in standard trim (which now includes manual air-conditioning for the first time) at £14,995. There are four TFSI turbo petrol cars, starting with the 1.4 at £16,450 and finishing with the 2.0 quattro at £22,295, plus 104bhp 1.9 and 138bhp 2.0 TDI turbo diesels at £16,995 and £18,495 respectively. No prices have yet been announced for the front-wheel drive and quattro 168bhp 2.0 TDIs, though these cars will go on sale in the UK at the same time as all the others. Most versions have a choice of transmission. The 1.6, 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI and 1.9 TDI have five-speed manual gearboxes as standard, and with the exception of the TDI they can also be ordered with the seven-speed twin-clutch S tronic for an extra £1400. The 2.0 TFSI quattro has the six-speed S tronic as standard, and this is an option on the front-wheel drive 2.0 TDIs, which normally have six-speed manuals. All the prices quoted above assume standard trim. For the extra equipment included in the SE you pay a further £650, and the premiums for Sport and S line are £1850 and £3400 respectively. For the lowest CO2 emissions in the range - a tax-friendly 119g/km - you want the 1.9 TDI e, which comes only in the lowest trim level. From SE specification upwards this one has a CO2 rating above the 120g/km threshold, due to extra weight and different wheels and tyres. Standing alone in the A3 range is the 262bhp S3, which has its own trim and costs £27,220. Along with all the other models, you can have this in five-door Sportback form for an extra £500. The three-door A3 is already available to order, and you can put your name down for a Sportback from May 19. First deliveries are expected to take place in July.
