(Tue 13 May 08) Lexus has introduced what it describes as a "sporty addition" to the IS range in the form of the IS 250 SR.
Actually, this is largely a cosmetic job. The SR has the same 204bhp 2.5-litre petrol engine as most of the other IS models, and there's no change in either performance of fuel consumption. However, it does have a bodykit (deep skirts all round, plus a very subtle rear spoiler) and 17" ten-spoke alloy wheels (with optional 18" alternatives), so it looks pretty smart. Inside, there are aluminium pedals and scuff plates, plus heated front seats. Three metallic exterior colours are being offered - Velvet Black, Cadoxton Slate and Argento Ice - and the standard interior colour is Worcester Black. Based on the entry-level IS 250, the SR costs £24,990 in manual form or £25,800 with the six-speed automatic gearbox. According to Lexus, that's a premium of less than £1000 in return for more than £3500 worth of extra equipment. |
