(Wed 21 May 08) Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum has been given an Honorary Fellowship of the Institute of Engineering Designers (IED) and has also received the Gerald Frewer Memorial Trophy for his outstanding contributions to modern car design.
"I feel very honoured to be welcomed as an Honorary Fellow by the IED," says Callum, "particularly as they have acknowledged people of such great achievement in the past. This recognition, accompanied by the Gerald Frewer Memorial Trophy, is a clear indication that our design philosophy at Jaguar is being recognised within the industry." "Ian's work has inspired many engineering designers and members of the public," says IED Secretary and Chief Executive Libby Brodhurst. "The IED are particularly delighted to be able to count such an influential designer as an Honorary Fellow." Other Honorary Fellows include Prince Philip, JCB owner Sir Anthony Bamford and James Dyson, inventor of the dual cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner. Gerald Frewer, who died in 1978, was a designer at the Kennedy Space Centre, and was involved in the American space programme from Project Apollo to the early years of the Space Shuttle project.
