(Thu 22 May 08) You must admit, this is very pretty. It's called the Scirocco GT24 Concept, and although it looks like a race car, it isn't really - but it is very similar to the Scirocco developed by Volkswagen Motorsport to compete in this weekend's Nürburgring 24 Hour race.
The GT24 is a road-going version which has just been unveiled at the annual Wörthersee Festival in Austria. The turbocharged two-litre TSI petrol engine has been uprated to produce a maximum of 296bhp, and it drives the front wheels through a six-speed DSG gearbox with revised ratios and stronger clutch plates. The front splitter and huge rear wing add 227mm to the standard car's length, and the trick suspension reduces the ride height by 75mm. The interior is very much that of a race car, with two lightweight Recaro competition seats, five-point racing harnesses, an electronic display, a fire extinguisher and a rollcage.
The standard car - which uses the same engine but in 197bhp form - goes on sale in the UK on August 29. More Volkswagen Scirocco Photos Previous: Kia Soul For Production Next: Economy Records For Peugeot 308 |
