(Wed 28 May 08) The SsangYong Rodius may not be the most attractive MPV on the market, but it now has what must be the most extraordinary warranties of any vehicle sold in the UK.
The normal warranty is for three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. That has now been extended to three years or 250,000 miles - approximately ten times round the equator - and it covers what SsangYong describes as "all vital components" including the engine, transmission, 4x4 system (if fitted), brakes, wheel bearings and electronic systems such as the ABS and ECU. Unfortunately, it's not available to normal customers, but only to those who buy the Rodius for hire or reward - taxi drivers, in other words. "We have taken soundings from the taxi trade and addressed their needs,” says SsangYong marketing Director, Nigel Unwin. "Normal customers don’t miss out. In fact they get an even more comprehensive warranty tailored to their needs and likely mileages. The taxi warranty is designed to keep the vehicle working for its owner over much greater distances."
