(Fri 14 Nov 08) Pupils at Caterham School in Surrey will be enhancing their education by building a Caterham Seven sports car over the next 12 months.
The car will be assembled by members of the Kit Car Club, and teachers will use it as a teaching aid across a wide variety of subjects. "There’s a great deal the school can gain from having the Seven," says teacher Jamie Ogilvie. "For example, in Physics, pupils can look at how the suspension system works, English lessons could include copywriting a brochure and other marketing material, and in Economics the business of selling and exporting cars can be investigated." Once all this has happened, Caterham Cars will sell the Seven to raise funds for the school to build a new car at no further cost. Caterham Marketing Director Andy Noble is enthusiastic about the project. "It’s great to see the pupils get passionate about a subject," he says. "It really brings learning to life. And if we can help inspire some of the guys and girls to reach their potential, then that's an added bonus." This is a fascinating project, but not the first of its kind. A school in Dorset has been running a similar scheme for the past three years. |
