Subaru And Safety

(Thu 27 Nov 08)

Subaru has once again been honoured by the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The IIHS conducts crash tests, similar to those devised by Euro NCAP, and awards points based on a car's performance in a 40mph offset frontal collision, a 31mph side impact and a simulated 20mph rear-end shunt.

The IIHS's highest award is a Top Safety Pick, and to win one of those a car has to perform well in those three tests, and must also be fitted with electronic stability control. Every one of the 2009 model-year Subarus sold in the US (Impreza, Legacy, Forester and Tribeca) has been given a Top Safety Pick in its respective class.

"It is not a surprise that Subaru has again received Top Safety Pick awards for its vehicles," says IIHS President Adrian Lund. "Subaru is a standout for 2009 because it has at least one Top Safety Pick in every vehicle class in which it competes. The Top Safety Pick awards speak to the commitment Subaru makes to produce safer vehicles."
