| Toyota Develops Rear Airbag | ||

(Wed 01 Oct 08) Until now, all car airbags have been designed to help protect passengers in the event of a frontal or side impact. But what happens if there's a rear-end shunt?
Toyota has become the first manufacturer to announce the fitment of a rear airbag. It has been developed for the forthcoming iQ city car, and what happens is that if a rear impact occurs a curtain-like barrier deploys from the roof lining above the tailgate window, thereby reducing the chance of injury to the passengers' heads. |
