(Thu 02 Oct 08) The new Alto, the smallest car in Suzuki's five-model range, is being premiered at this year's Paris Show. It uses the same one-litre petrol engine already found in the Splash, and according to preliminary figures it should end up with an official combined fuel economy figure of 62.7mpg and a CO2 rating of 103g/km, which would equate to £35 annual car tax.
That's assuming a five-speed manual gearbox. Suzuki will also be offering a four-speed automatic which will use more fuel and cost £120 to tax, but which may well find favour with customers who want the driving experience to be as easy as possible. Described as having "European-inspired looks" (though it seems very Far Eastern to us), the new Alto has five doors and luggage capacity which ranges from 129 litres with the rear seat in place to 774 litres if you fold down the seat and load up to roof level. More details, including prices, will be announced nearer the Alto's UK launch in March next year. |
