(Mon 06 Oct 08) The average price of a Volkswagen Scirocco has come down sharply with the introduction of two new engines and a reduced trim level.
The engines are a 138bhp 2.0 TDI turbo diesel, which comes with six-speed manual or DSG transmission, and a 158bhp 1.4-litre TSI petrol available in manual form only. The 1.4 TSI Scirocco accelerates from 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds, has combined fuel economy of 42.8mpg and emits CO2 at the rate of 154g/km on the EU combined cycle. For best fuel economy you want the 2.0 TDI manual, which manages 55.4mpg and 134g/km. Both TDI models have a 0-62mph time of 9.3 seconds. The new (and un-named) trim level is in addition to the current GT, and although it involves fewer goodies it still includes 17" alloy wheels, air-conditioning, a 6-CD autochanger, automatic headlights and wipers and six airbags. This is the only trim offered for the 1.4 TSI, but the diesel is available in both standard and GT forms. Prices for the new arrivals range from £18,790 for the 1.4 TSI to £21,770 for the 2.0 TDI DSG GT. The existing 198bhp 2.0 TSI GT costs £20,940 in manual form and £22,270 with DSG. |
