(Mon 06 Oct 08) As predicted several months ago, Peugeot has used the Paris Show to give the 308 CC its formal unveiling.
The new coupé-cabriolet is lower, but longer and wider, than the 307 CC it replaces. It will be available from launch with a choice of two engines - a 150bhp 1.6 turbo petrol and a 140bhp 2.0 HDi turbo diesel, both available with six-speed manual transmission or (in less powerful form) with four- and six-speed automatics respectively. Other engines will be introduced later. The two-part roof is similar to that of the 307 CC and folds up or down in 20 seconds when the car is either stationary or moving at no more than 7mph. Luggage volume is 465 litres when the roof is up, 266 litres when it's down. Peugeot has worked hard on safety with this car, to the extent that all the lateral protection for the front-seat passengers (including a world-first head airbag) is contained within the seats themselves. The protection level is therefore the same regardless of how tall or short the occupant is. The 308 CC will go on sale in the UK next April at prices starting from around £17,000.
