(Fri 10 Oct 08) The GreenLine will become the most economical car in the Skoda Superb range when it goes on sale next Monday (October 13).
It uses the 105bhp 1.9-litre TDI turbo diesel engine, so don't expect it to be quick, but do expect it to be economical. Other Superbs with the same engine have combined fuel consumption of 49.6mpg, but the GreenLine manages 55.4mpg on the combined cycle. This equates to a drop in CO2 emissions from 151g/km to 136g/km, which in turn means a saving of £25 in car tax now, increasing to £40 under the new VED system due to come into force next year. The improvements have been achieved by conventional means: the GreenLine is lighter than the standard Superb 1.9 TDI, the ECU has been remapped, the gearing is higher, aerodynamics have been improved and low-resistance tyres have been fitted. As well as all this, the name GreenLine also refers to a new trim level which comes between the current S and SE. On top of the S specification, the GreenLine gets sunset glass, cruise control, a four-spoke leather steering wheel and a tyre repair kit. It's priced at £16,710. |
