(Fri 17 Oct 08) The model range for the sixth-generation Volkswagen Golf (described in our launch report) has been confirmed, and cars are available to order now at prices starting from £13,150.
There are three trim levels, called S, SE and GT. All versions come with ABS, ESP, seven airbags (including one for the driver's knees), remote central locking, air-conditioning, a radio/CD player and heated door mirrors. SE models also have an uprated audio system with a link to external devices, 16" alloy wheels, automatic headlights and wipers and cruise control, while GTs get 17" alloys, sports suspension (lowered by 15mm), sports seats with Alcantara trim, front foglights and a multifunction steering wheel. The choice of engines depends partly on which trim level you go for. The full range includes 79bhp 1.4 and 101bhp 1.6 petrol engines, super/turbocharged 1.4-litre TSI petrol units in 120bhp and 158bhp forms and 108bhp and 138bhp versions of the two-litre turbo diesel. £13,150 buys you the entry-level 1.4 S three-door, while the top model is the 138bhp GT TDI five-door at £20,980.
