Extensions to each end of the new SEAT Ibiza range will make their first public appearances at next month's Paris Show.

The more exciting of the new models is the Cupra, based on the three-door Ibiza SC which will arrive on the UK market later this year. The Cupra uses a 178bhp version of the 1.4-litre Volkswagen TSI engine, which achieves its impressive power output with the help of both a supercharger and a turbocharger, and is mated to a seven-speed twin-clutch DSG gearbox.

The Cupra also looks very different from other Ibiza SCs thanks to its new front bumper, rear diffuser, central trapezoid exhaust tailpipe and 17" alloy wheels. Inside, it has sporty aluminium pedals and special seats.

At the other end of the scale comes the new Ibiza Ecomotive. Like the existing car of the same name (which is still on sale despite retaining the old Ibiza body shape), the Ecomotive has a 79bhp 1.4-litre TDI turbo diesel engine with revised ECU mapping.

The Ecomotive will be available in both five-door and SC body styles, and in each case it benefits from aerodynamic improvements, higher gearing, low-resistance tyres and reduced weight (the spare wheel has been replaced by a puncture repair kit). The overall result, as with the current car, is a CO2 rating of 99g/km, which makes the Ecomotive exempt from VED.

Both the Cupra and the Ecomotive will be launched in the UK next summer, at prices which will be confirmed nearer the time.
