(Tue 09 Sep 08) Volvo has developed low-CO2 versions of the C30, S40 and V50, all of which are called DRIVe and emit less than 120g/km of the world's most taxable gas.
The most obvious visual clue to the work Volvo has done is the fitment of new "Libra" wheels which reduce aerodynamic drag by over 10%, though it may take a while to get used to the way they look. Other features of the DRIVe models include further aerodynamic improvements, higher gearing, revised engine management, low-friction transmission oil and low-resistance tyres. The result is combined fuel economy of 64.2mpg and a CO2 rating of 115g/km for the C30 DRIVe, and 62.8mpg and 118g/km for the S40 and V50. All of them therefore fall into VED Band B, which means annual car tax payments of just £35. The DRIVe models will make their public debut at the Paris Show in October. Production starts in November, and UK deliveries are scheduled to start in January. |
