MINI Crossover Concept

(Wed 10 Sep 08)

A design study for the fourth car in the MINI range - after the hatchback, Convertible and Clubman - will go on display at the Paris Show next month.

MINI 124 - Crossover Concept.

Not perhaps the prettiest model the company has devised, the Crossover is certainly the largest, being over 4 metres long and 1.6 metres high. It also has four doors, one of which slides rather than opens conventionally to make it easier to load large objects. Extra luggage capacity is provided in the form of a roof compartment and a transport case which can be fitted to the tailgate.

The Crossover is also the first MINI with four-wheel drive, and the first with four separate seats, the rear two of which can be slid forwards and backwards over a range of 13cm.

There's no word yet on when such a machine will go on sale, but MINI says that the Crossover is "the basis on which a series production car will be developed in the future".
