(Thu 11 Sep 08) The most futuristic-looking car on Renault's stand at the Paris Show will be the Ondelios concept.
"Ondelios" is a made-up name combining the French word for wave (onde), referring to the car's fluid lines, with Helios, Greek god of the sun, which has been added because it sounds good. The basic idea of the car itself is that it should be able to transport six people (who climb aboard through gullwing doors) in comfort on long journeys. On the technical side, the Ondelios is an experiment of a completely different kind. It's a hybrid, using a 205bhp two-litre turbo diesel engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch electronically-controlled manual gearbox and two electric motors whose energy is stored in lithium-ion batteries.
This combination gives a 0-62mph time of 7.8 seconds, but the Ondelios should also be able to achieve an official combined fuel economy figure on the high side of 60mpg and emit 120g/km of CO2. Renault Gallery Previous: Mercedes-Benz Coupé Concept Next: More On The Citroen C3 Picasso |
