(Tue 16 Sep 08) Selected Ford dealerships are now offering performance upgrades on new and used versions of the Focus ST.
The kit, developed by renowned tuning company Mountune, consists of a larger intercooler, a high-flow air filter and a remapped ECU. It costs £1120, plus fitting, and it raises the ST's maximum power output from the standard 222bhp to 256bhp. This means an improvement in the 0-60mph time from 6.5 seconds to 5.9 seconds, while the 0-100mph time drops from 16.0 seconds to 14.1 seconds. The ST should be able to cope with this without further modification, but a suspension kit is also under development. The engine kit has a choice of warranties from 12 months/12,000 miles to three years/36,000 miles, and having it fitted does not affect the standard warranty for the rest of the car. For now, the only dealers able to offer the performance upgrade are Dagenham Motors in Woodford, Brunel Ford in Bristol, Heartlands Ford in Birmingham and Polar Ford in Warrington and Castleford. Other Ford dealers will, however, be added to the list in the near future. |
