(Wed 24 Sep 08) Volkswagen has revealed a one-tonne pickup concept which paves the way for a production model due to go into production towards the end of next year.
The four-door concept is 5.18 metres long and 1.9 metres wide, and can carry a Euro pallet sideways on its cargo bed. The first VW commercial vehicle to have been designed by Volkswagen Group design chief Walter de Silva, it will use a new-generation common-rail turbo diesel engine. The concept car itself was designed as a Search And Rescue vehicle by lifeguards, and it's fitted with GPS, CB radios, life jackets, rescue buoys, fire extinguishers, a compass and a defibrillator. Whether there will be an SAR version of the production vehicle has not yet been decided. |
