The hatchback version of the new Renault Megane will go on sale in the UK in late November, priced from £13,995.

From launch, there will be three trim levels - Expression, Dynamique and Privilege - and six engines, divided equally between three and petrol. The 1.5 dCi 86 turbo diesel is the most economical, while for maximum performance you'll be wanting the 2.0 TCe 180, which is available only in Dynamique form.

All models come with air-conditioning, heated door mirrors, front and rear electric windows, six airbags, ESP and understeer control. Dynamique, which is likely to be the most popular trim level, includes sporty alloy wheels, automatic lights and wipers, cruise control, a hands-free Renault card, front foglights and a height-adjustable passenger seat, while Privilege models get dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, folding door mirrors, a dimming interior mirror, a rear armrest with storage and rear parking sensors.

£13,995 buys you the 1.6 VVT 100 Expression, the cheap-to-run 1.5 dCi 86 Expression (64.2mpg combined, 118g/km, Group 5 insurance) costs £14,995, the powerful 2.0 TCe 180 Dynamique comes in at £17,745 and the 1.9 dCi 130 Privilege tops the range at £18,795.
