(Wed 08 Apr 09) The new seven-seat Renault Grand Scenic is available to order now and will officially go on sale in the UK on May 15 at prices starting from under £15,000.
The entry-level car is the Extreme 1.6 petrol, which at £14,995 is cheaper than any current Grand Scenic despite having two more seats than several of them (Renault having decided not to bother selling five-seat versions in the UK any more). More expensive to buy but cheaper to tax are the models with 1.5-litre dCi turbo diesel engine. These are available in all four trim levels - Extreme, Expression, Dynamique and Privilege - and have CO2 emissions of just 135g/km, the lowest of any seven-seat car on the market. The 1.5 dCi is hardly new, having appeared in several Renault and Nissan models already. Of the other six engines in the range, however, two are new - a 130bhp version of the 1.4-litre TCe turbo petrol (previously available with either 100bhp or 180bhp) and a 160bhp two-litre diesel with particulate filter. There's also a 140bhp two-litre petrol mated to a CVT transmission rather than, as in all other cases, a manual gearbox. Going by previous experience, Renault believes that the most popular trim level will be Dynamique, which includes automatic headlights and wipers, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, a hands-free keycard, a leather-rimmed steering wheel and speed limiter. The Dynamique costs between £17,595 and £22,495, depending on engine. For an extra £1200, the Privilege provides dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, electric folding mirrors, rear parking sensors and a sliding centre storage unit. All models apart from the Extreme are fitted with a reversing camera, the first time Renault has offered this on any production car, and the Grand Scenic is also available with an integrated Carminat TomTom satellite navigation system for £450. The smaller (non-Grand) Renault Scenic will arrive in the UK two months after its larger relative, in July. |
