MINI Beachcomber Concept

(Wed 16 Dec 09)

MINI has revealed its latest concept car ahead of its formal unveiling at the Detroit Show in January. The Beachcomber is a modern interpretation of the original Mini Moke, which arrived on the scene back in 1964, and one of the first things to notice about it is that it has no doors. According to MINI, "A pleasant and interesting side effect is that the distance the occupants feel from their surroundings is reduced to a minimum." Yes, that's one way of putting it.

The Beachcomber is also much taller than a standard MINI, with considerably more ground clearance, and it has four-wheel drive. In that respect it's similar to the fourth model in the range (after the hatchback, Convertible and Clubman), a crossover model which is scheduled to go into production next autumn.
