(Tue 22 Dec 09) Hyundai's press office, clearly in a festive mood, has come up with one of our favourite press release headlines of 2009: "Hyundai's Special Edition Edition Additions". As well as rolling nicely off the tongue, it's perfectly accurate, since there are indeed several new Hyundai models - as many as there will shortly be geese a-laying, in fact - arriving in January, and they are all called Edition.
The i30 Edition comes in three forms, but they all feature the same bodywork changes, namely a modified front grille, hexagonal air intake, redesigned foglights, side skirts and a new rear bumper with twin exhaust tailpipes. Standard equipment also includes 16" alloy wheels, privacy glass, sports pedals, a chrome-finished gearknob, heated door mirrors, a six-speaker radio/CD with Aux and USB connections, and so on. The differences relate only to the engines. The cheapest i30 Edition has a 1.4-litre petrol engine and costs £13,400 (including VAT at 17.5%) and there are also 1.6-litre petrol and diesel versions at £13,900 and £14,700 respectively. The i20 Edition comes in three- and five-door forms at £10,565 and £11,025, and gets 15" alloy wheels, half-leather seat trim, air-conditioning, leather steering wheel (with audio controls) and gearknob, a similar audio set-up to the i30 and remote central locking. At extra cost there are two exterior colours - Crystal White and Ice Blue - which are not available on other i20s. The cheapest Edition model is the i10, which has a 1.1-litre petrol engine, 14" alloy wheels, front foglights, body-coloured mirrors, remote central locking, air-conditioning, electric windows, a height-adjustable driver's seat and leather steering wheel and gearknob, all for £8425.
