(Wed 11 Feb 09) Suzuki is marketing its latest Alto as the lowest-CO2 petrol-engined five-door on the UK market. With a 67bhp one-litre engine, it achieves 64.2mpg on the official combined cycle, and in the same test emits CO2 at the rate of 103g/km. That means annual VED of £35, and if Suzuki could somehow drop the CO2 level by a further 4g/km customers would not have to pay VED at all.
