(Wed 11 Feb 09) Saab will be revealing a new member of the 9-3 range at the Geneva Show in March. The 9-3X follows the familiar path of offering customers a slightly more rugged version of a standard estate car without going to the trouble of buying an SUV instead.
There will be two more models, of which the more radical is the one with the 207bhp two-litre turbocharged petrol engine and four-wheel drive. It rides 35mm higher than a standard 9-3 estate and has extra protective covering for the bumpers, side skirts and wheelarches for those times when the driver ventures off-road. Saab is also offering a 1.9-litre turbo diesel version with front-wheel drive only and a ride height 20mm higher than standard. Both cars have a choice of six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.
