Electric Range Rover

(Fri 27 Feb 09)

Oxford-based Liberty Cars has confirmed plans to build electric cars in Northumberland, starting later in 2009.

Range Rover 34 - Liberty Electric Conversion.

Liberty has signed a memorandum of understanding with One North East to invest £30 million into manufacturing at the Nelson Industrial Estate in Cramlington. The first product will be a Range Rover converted to use Liberty's drivetrain, which will give the car a top speed of over 100mph and a range of up to 200 miles.

The Range Rover will cost around £125,000, and future plans include converting other models from Land Rover "and prestige marques".
