(Wed 07 Jan 09) Introduced in 2006, the Bentley Continental GTC convertible is receiving its first major update, with various improvements and the creation of a new top-end model.
All versions receive a facelift for 2009, including a more upright grille, a larger air intake and chrome headlamp surrounds. The power steering has been revised for improved feedback, the suspension has been tuned for better ride comfort, and the options list includes carbon ceramic brakes (for cars with 20" wheels) and Adaptive Cruise Control. The new model is the GTC Speed, in which the six-litre V12 engine has been tuned to produce 600bhp (rather than the standard 552bhp). This makes it the fastest Bentley convertible ever, with a top speed (with the roof up) of 200mph, a 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds and a 0-100mph time of 10.6 seconds. The Speed is expected to be the most popular GTC, accounting for more than half of overall GTC sales in its first year.
