(Wed 01 Jul 09) Nissan has announced that it is extending its own special scrappage arrangement for a further three months.
Like all the other major brands, Nissan has been taking part in the nationwide scrappage scheme, in which eligible cars registered before 31 July 1999 are bought for £2000, half of it supplied by the manufacturer itself and half by the Government. However, Nissan also created its own scheme, offering the full £2000 off the price of any of its British-built cars (Micra, Note and Qashqai) if the scrap car was between eight and ten years old. That scheme was due to come to an end yesterday (June 30) but due to a change in policy it will now run until September 30. Nissan says it is doing this partly to increase its own share of the UK market and partly to give a boost to the British car industry; the second half of that claim is more relevant than usual, since by force of numbers most of the new cars bought under the Government-led scrappage arrangement are bound to have been imported from factories in other countries.
