| Honda Re-Opens Swindon | ||

(Mon 01 Jun 09) Workers have returned to the Honda factory in Swindon for two days of process training before the assembly lines restart on Wednesday, following a four-month halt in production.
The Swindon workforce has dropped from 4700 to 3400 during that time, and those who remain have accepted a pay cut (due for review next March) in order to safeguard their jobs. Although no cars have emerged from it since the end of January, the factory has not been deserted. Much of the equipment has been replaced, and there are now facilities to build the Jazz starting this autumn. The more immediate task, however, is to resume production of Civic and CR-V models intended for sale in Europe. |
