(Wed 10 Jun 09) Five Fiat 500s decorated by artist Damien Hirst have raised £440,000 in raffle ticket sales at a charity dinner in London.
The charity in question is ARK (Absolute Return for Kids) which operates to the benefit of children around the world. Most recently, it has announced a £27 million HIV/AIDS programme directed towards infants in South Africa. The 500s, all of which featured butterfly designs by Hirst, were donated by Fiat and contributed to a fund total of £15.6 million. This is not the first time the 500 has received the attention of a famous artist. Four examples were styled by Tracey Emin to raise funds for other charities in 2007 and 2008.
