(Mon 15 Jun 09) The 2.7-litre V6 HDi turbo diesel engine currently being used in Citroen's C5 and C6 ranges is being phased out to make way for a new three-litre unit.
Like its predecessor, the 3.0 has been developed jointly by Ford and PSA Peugeot Citroen, and is fitted to, among other things, the latest Jaguar XF. With a maximum output of 237bhp it's the most powerful engine ever used in a production Citroen, but it's also more economical than the 2.7, giving combined fuel economy of 38.0mpg in both the C5 and the C6 (compared with the previous 33.6mpg and 32.5mpg respectively) and CO2 emissions of 195g/km which bring annual VED payments down by £190. The three-litre diesel C5 and C6 will go on sale later this summer, at prices which have still to be confirmed. |
