Hot New SEAT Ibizas

(Mon 15 Jun 09)

SEAT has confirmed the UK pricing for its trio of high-performance Ibizas, due to go on sale here this autumn.

SEAT Ibiza 85 - Cupra.

All three use a 1.4-litre TSI engine which is both supercharged and turbocharged and drives the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG transmission, with XDS (the electronic equivalent of a limited slip differential) to keep everything in check. In the case of the Cupra (pictured above) and the Bocanegra, which is mechanically identical to the Cupra but has various styling additions, the engine produces a maximum of 178bhp, giving a top speed of 140mph and a 0-62mph time of 148g/km.

The official CO2 figure is 148g/km, which means that both the Cupra and the Bocanegra will cost £125 per year to tax. Combined fuel economy is provisionally rated at 44.1mpg, though as usual you won't achieve anything like that if you start using the performance to any great extent.

The Ibiza FR's engine is in a lower state of tune, giving a maximum of 148bhp, but it won't be any cheaper to tax because at 146g/km it's in the same VED Band as the others. Combined fuel economy is 44.8mpg (with the same warning as before, although this figure should be easier to reach).

All three cars are available to order now from SEAT dealers, and deliveries are due to start on October 1. The FR costs £14,995, the Cupra £15,995 and the Bocanegra £16,695.
