(Tue 16 Jun 09) Ford is now offering automatic transmission on 1.4-litre petrol versions of the Fiesta. The gearbox adds £1000 to the price and has an inevitable effect on the key figures: the top speed falls, though not drastically, to 103mph, while the 0-62mph time is similarly a little shy of the manual's at 13.9 seconds.
There is a more serious effect on the combined fuel economy and CO2 emissions, which go to 49.5mpg and 154g/km. In return for all this, of course, you no longer have to operate a clutch pedal, which for some people is the more important consideration. The Fiesta 1.4 automatic is available in the Style+, Zetec and Titanium trim levels, at prices starting from £13,195. |
