(Fri 19 Jun 09) Just 560 examples of the Mercedes-Benz CLS Grand Edition will be sold in the UK, with deliveries starting next month.
Although the CLS was not available with a diesel engine when it first appeared here in 2005, diesels have since taken over 70% of sales, so it makes sense that the Grand Edition uses the same unit fitted to the CLS 350 CDI. It has been tweaked, though, with maximum power output up from 224bhp to 272bhp. The 0-62mph has dropped to 6.5 seconds as a result, while combined fuel economy is 37.2mpg and the CO2 rating is 215g/km. As standard, the Grand Edition comes with 18" five-spoke AMG alloy wheels in Titanium Grey finish, Palladium Silver front grille louvres and headlamp housings, floor mats with Grand Edition branding and the bi-xenon light package which includes Cornering Light Function and the Active Light System. This extra equipment would add £4636 to the price of a CLS 350 CDI if chosen from the options list, but the Grand Edition has a price premium of just £2495, costing from £48,445. |
