(Fri 26 Jun 09) BMW has announced that a car it will bring to the UK later this year will have the best fuel economy and lowest CO2 emissions of any 3-Series it has ever built.
It's called the 316d ES saloon, and it has a two-litre turbo diesel engine producing a maximum of 116bhp. The performance is adequate rather than startling - top speed 125mph, 0-62mph in 10.9 seconds - but the big news is that the official combined fuel economy figure is 62.8mpg, while the CO2 rating is 118g/km. That last statistic puts the 316d into VED Band B, which means annual tax payments of £35 this year and £30 from next April onwards. BMW also points out that business users paying 40% tax will be liable for £1208 per year, while those in the 25% bracket will pay £755 - respectively £524 and £328 less than they would for the 318d. The 316d will go on sale in September, costing £23,330. Previous: World Series Renaults Next: New BMW 7-Series Diesel |
