| Skoda Yeti Confirmed | ||

(Tue 03 Mar 09) Skoda first brought the Yeti to our attention at the Geneva Show back in 2005. At the same event four years later, the Czech company has confirmed that a development of this mini-MPV will indeed go into production.
The 2005 concept was designed to look, in Skoda's words, "positive and friendly", to which we commented that "it therefore seems odd that it has been named after an animal which, if it actually exists, is large and fierce and may possibly eat you." Be that is it may, it's still going to be called Yeti, and it looks broadly the same as it did four years ago, though with a much closer resemblance to the other four models in the Skoda range. It sits on 17" wheels and has a high seating position, plus a luggage compartment with a maximum volume of 1760 litres and an array of covers, nets and lashing rings. There will be various trim levels and a choice of three engines, all turbocharged: a 104bhp 1.2 TSI petrol, a 158bhp 1.8 TSI petrol and three versions of a two-litre TDI common-rail diesel producing 108bhp, 138bhp and 168bhp. The Yeti looks like a 4x4, and generally it is, through front-wheel drive is available on the least powerful diesel and compulsory on the 1.2 TSI.
