Chevrolet has announced that its new medium-sized hatchback Cruze will go on sale in the UK in July this year at prices starting from £11,545.

That amount will buy you the entry-level 1.6 S petrol model. The S has remote central locking, follow-me-home lighting, electric front windows, fully adjustable driver's seat and steering wheel, six airbags and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) as standard, with air-conditioning as a £450 option.

Most buyers are expected to go for the LS trim level, which has air-conditioning as standard along with 16" alloy wheels, front foglights and rear parking sensors. The range-topping LT gets cruise control, climate control, an automatic dimming interior mirror, 17" alloys, electric rear windows, an upgraded audio system and, as an extra-cost option, integrated satellite navigation.

The engine line-up is identical for the S and LS in that both offer a choice between the 111bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine and a 123bhp two-litre turbo diesel. LT models come with either a 139bhp 1.8 petrol or a 148bhp version of the 2.0 diesel. The diesel LT is the most expensive car in the range at £15,195, while the LS and LT petrol cars have the option of automatic transmission for an extra £1100.
