Vauxhall Insignia Estate

(Thu 19 Mar 09)

An estate body style will be introduced to the Vauxhall Insignia range when the Sports Tourer is launched in the UK on April 10.

Vauxhall Insignia 16 - Sports Tourer.

Vauxhall is quoting luggage capacity of 540 litres with the rear seats in place and 1530 litres when they are folded, the latter figure being significantly less than that of the Ford Mondeo estate though the former is very close. Vauxhall expects that the increased practicality will make the Sports Tourer account for around 15% of UK sales.

The new model shares the same line-up of engines and trim levels as the saloon and hatchback. And speaking of engines, Vauxhall is also introducing a new 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit to the entire Insignia range. This will officially be the most economical and least CO2-emitting petrol engine offered with the car, and although it won't match the two-litre diesels in those respects it should appeal to people who want good economy but just don't like diesels.
