(Thu 26 Mar 09) A large part of Porsche's success in recent years is due to the popularity of the Cayenne SUV, but the latest edition to the range won't help that situation much since it is a strictly limited-edition model.
The Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 is based on the standard GTS, so it has a 405bhp 4.8-litre V8 petrol engine which, along with the Tiptronic S six-speed automatic gearbox, means a top speed of 156mph and a 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds. But that's just the start of it. The Design Edition will be easily recognisable, in the unlikely event that you find yourself anywhere one, thanks to the Lava Grey metallic paintwork, darker grey strips, colour-matched 21" alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, rear privacy glass and - if chosen as a no-cost option - extended roof spoiler. Inside, the trim is part-leather, part-alcantara and part-carbon, and there is also a Bose 5.1 Surround Sound audio system with 14 loudspeakers giving a total output of 410W. Design Edition 3 owners can also choose from a range of accessories, including a watch and a four-piece luggage set. In case you're wondering, this is not, despite the name, the third Design Edition version of the Cayenne. Design Edition 1 was a Cayman, while Design Edition 2 was a Boxster. Just 1000 examples of the special Cayenne will be made available worldwide, and only to customer order. Those orders can be placed from May onwards, and the asking price is £64,753. |
