(Fri 01 May 09) SEAT has confirmed that it will be offering a new engine in the Ibiza from this summer. It's a 105bhp 1.6-litre common-rail turbo diesel, and on the official fuel economy cycle it gives a combined figure of 67.2mpg, equating to CO2 emissions of 109g/km - not quite as good as the 98g/km of the Ecomotive but still pretty impressive.
The 1.6 is also significantly faster than the 1.4-litre Ecomotive, with a top speed of 117mph and a provisional 0-62mph time of 10.5 seconds. The new engine is to be offered in both the three-door SC and five-door body styles, and in the Sport trim level. Prices will be announced nearer the UK showroom launch in July.
