Renault Kangoo Pricing

(Wed 07 May 09)

Renault has confirmed the pricing of the new Kangoo compact MPV, which is available to order now and officially goes on sale on June 5.

Renault Kangoo 16.

The latest Kangoo is built on the same platform as the Renault Scenic and is considerably larger than the previous one. There is more room for human occupants, and luggage capacity can be as much as 2866 litres, with the possibility of carrying objects 2.5 metres long, if you fold down all the seats except the one for the driver (though this does assume that you've bought the optional Adaptability Pack which we'll come to shortly).

There are two trim levels, called Extreme and Expression. Expression models cost £850 more than Extremes, and for that you get an upgraded audio system, body-coloured electric folding door mirrors, body-coloured bumpers, front foglights, ISOFIX points for the front passenger seat and front overhead and multi-position rear parcel shelves.

Renault is offering five engines - two 1.6-litre petrol units and three 1.5 dCi turbo diesels with power outputs of 68bhp, 86bhp and 106bhp, though the last of these is available only with the Expression trim level. All have five-speed manual gearboxes, but later this year a four-speed automatic will become available with the more powerful of the two petrol engines.

Prices range from £11,200 for the less powerful 1.6 petrol Extreme and extend to £14,050 for the 106bhp turbo diesel Expression. The automatics will cost £12,200 or £13,550, depending on trim level.

For these sums you get a fairly basic car. If you want extra goodies you're going to have to pay for them: £200 for a CD/MP3 player with Bluetooth connectivity, £500 for 15" alloy wheels, £300 for ESP and traction control, £250 for rear parking sensors, £300 for a rear roof flap, £600 for satellite navigation, £250 for cruise control and a speed limiter, £200 for curtain airbags, £250 for roof bars, £395 for metallic paint, £150 for electric rear windows, £125 for an Adaptability Pack (the folding front passenger seat and rear aviation tables) and £250 for an Easy Pack (the electric rear windows already mentioned plus automatic lights and wipers).

Only the last four of these are available for all models - the first six apply just to the Expression. Throw in the whole lot and you could end up paying over £17,500.
