Another Mitsubishi Evo

(Wed 20 May 09)

Mitsubishi has increased the possible power output of a Lancer Evolution X fitted with the six-speed semi-automatic twin-clutch SST gearbox.

Mitsubishi Evo 59 - X.

Until now, SST has been available only with the least powerful (295bhp) version of the Evo's two-litre turbo petrol engine (see road test), but it's now possible to have 329bhp if you buy the new FQ-330 SST. The extra grunt brings the 0-62mph time down from 4.7 to 4.4 seconds, though it doesn't affect the top speed, which is limited to 155mph in all Evo models.

The revised engine adds £3000 to the price of the FQ-300 SST, bringing it to £35,999. To begin with, the engine modifications are being sold as a post-registration pack (and will shortly become an optional extra for existing FQ-300s) but Mitsubishi says that the FQ-330 SST will soon be sold as a stand-alone model.
