(Mon 09 Nov 09) Citroen has added two new engines to the C5 range and done some very mild tweaking to the line-up of trim levels.
The first new engine is a 155bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol. This is an old friend, being the unit that was co-developed by PSA Peugeot Citroen and the BMW Group, and is used in several versions of the MINI, among other things. It replaces the previous 143bhp non-turbo 2.0 petrol and is available only in the VTR+ saloon with manual transmission. As well as being more powerful, the 1.6 turbo gives 18.5% better fuel economy on the combined cycle, while CO2 emissions fall from 198g/km to 167g/km, giving a £40 saving in annual VED payments. Two diesels - the 140bhp 2.0 HDi and the 173bhp 2.2 HDi - have been deleted to make way for a single two-litre unit producing a maximum of 160bhp. Like the new 1.6 petrol, it meets Euro V emissions regulations and is available in VTR+ and Exclusive versions of the C5 saloon and Tourer, with a choice of six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Economy and CO2 emissions are better than they were with either of the previous diesels, and VED payments are now down to £125 for manual cars and £175 for the automatics. The entry-level SX trim level has now been renamed VTR, but there has been no change to the specification. Exclusive models, however, have now been uprated to the extent that an integrated Bluetooth system with USB Box is now fitted as standard. Prices for the C5 now range from £18,195 for the 110bhp 1.6 HDi saloon to £28,395 for the 240bhp 3.0 HDi V6 Exclusive automatic. |
