Few manufacturers have realised the importance of social networking to quite the same extent that Volvo has, and the Swedish company has now extended its involvement by creating an "around the world in 80 days" application on Facebook.

Participants are being encouraged to "drive" a C30 DRIVe up to a maximum of 825 miles (the car's theoretical range on one tank of fuel) before passing it on to one of their Facebook friends, who then does the same. The journey will be completed when the car returns to its starting point. The winning team will have €15,000 donated in its name by Volvo to the carbon offset project promoted by myclimate.
