New Hyundai Santa Fe

(Tue 17 Nov 09)

The updated 2010 version of the Hyundai Santa Fe SUV will go on sale in the UK on January 4, priced lower than the current model.

Hyundai Santa Fe 22.

The basic structure of the Santa Fe is unchanged, though there are several styling differences at the front and rear, and some interior work has increased the maximum luggage capacity (loaded to the roof with the rear seats folded) by 34 litres to 2247 litres.

More significantly, there's a new engine - a 2.2-litre turbo diesel which produces a lusty 194bhp. In models fitted with six-speed manual transmission, the diesel gives the Santa Fe a 0-62mph time of 9.8 seconds, but it is also more economical than its predecessor at just over 40mpg combined, while CO2 emissions have fallen to 176g/km. With this engine, the Santa Fe also now has a maximum braked towing weight of 2500kg, 300kg more than previously.

Further benefits of the new car are that company car drivers with P11Ds now pay 26% in tax, compared with 29% before, and service intervals have doubled to 20,000 miles.

There are now just two models in the range. The entry-level car is called Style, and it comes with 17" alloy wheels, reversing sensors, ESP and air-conditioning as standard, while the Premium gets 18" wheels, dual climate control air-conditioning, heated leather seats (with electric adjustment for the driver) and automatic headlights and wipers.

In its standard form the Santa Fe is a five-seater, but both the Style and the Premium have a seven-seat option which costs £750 and also includes self-levelling rear suspension, rear privacy glass, roof rails and - in the case of the Premium - rear controls for the air-conditioning.

Prices start at £21,495, including VAT at the 17.5% rate which will be back in force in January.
