| Volkswagen Polo Is Car Of The Year | ||
|
(Mon 30 Nov 09) Volkswagen's new Polo has been named 2010 Car of the Year, as a result of votes from 59 motoring journalists across Europe.
The Polo scored 347 points, ten ahead of the second-placed Toyota iQ. That result has already led to grumblings that the CotY jury favours "safe" (in the sense of unadventurous) designs over more radical ones. The fact is, however, that all 59 jurors gave some sort of vote to the Polo, and 25 of them named it as their favourite, while 58 voted for the iQ and 20 thought it was the best car. Seven cars made it to the final from an initial list of 33. The others were the Vauxhall Astra (221 points), Skoda Yeti (158), Mercedes-Benz E-Class (155), Peugeot 3008 (144) and Citroen C3 Picasso (113). Comment on this story on Facebook or Twitter.
