Citroen And The Eiffel Tower

(Thu 15 Oct 09)

As well as celebrating its own 90th anniversary this year, Citroen is also helping to mark the 120 years that have passed since the completion of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Every evening for three months, starting on October 22, a 12-minute light show will take place on the Tower, and the first of these can be viewed online at www.toureiffel.citroen.com, which will feature webcam footage from ten Citroen C3s.

The Tower was built between 1887 and 1889, and its original purpose was to be the entrance arch for a fair celebrating the centenary of the French Revolution. It has since become possibly Paris's most recognisable and admired feature, though at the time it was loathed by many people, particularly those in the city's arts community.

Citroen's association with the Tower dates back to 1925, when the company name was marked out by a quarter of a million light bulbs which required 375 miles worth of wiring to operate. This was the world's largest advertising sign, and it remained in place until 1934.
