(Thu 22 Oct 09) Mugen Euro, the Northampton-based offshoot of Japanese motorsport company Mugen, has announced that it is to produce a very small number of cars based on the Honda Civic Type R.
No more than 20 examples of the Type R Mugen are scheduled to be built. All of them will use a version of the regular Type R's two-litre petrol engine, modified to produce a maximum of 237bhp, plus a limited slip differential, uprated brakes and completely revised suspension. The cost, rather alarmingly, is £38,599, which is vastly more than other manufacturers charge for hot hatches with similar power, though Mugen Euro points out that customers will have direct contact with the engineers during the build process, and can to some extent have the car built to their own specification.
If the budget extends still further, Mugen Euro is offering an optional Track Pack, which includes Recaro front seats, the removal of the rear seats, water and oil temperature and pressure gauges, data-recording equipment and a set of track-ready (but still road-legal) tyres. All Type R Mugens will be painted Championship White and feature various aerodynamic aids including a large rear wing. For more information visit www.typermugen.co.uk.
