There are so many possible jokes about a car called Wind that we'll leave you to work them out yourself, and concentrate soberly on the fact that this is the name of Renault's new coupé/roadster, which will be given its world premiere at the Geneva Show early next month.

The Wind is a compact little device with a metal roof which, in the manner of coupé-convertibles, retreats into the boot space if the driver wants to enjoy some open-air motoring. This process takes just 12 seconds, which is much quicker than average, and the reason is that the roof doesn't actually fold. Instead, it pivots from the back and is stored in the luggage compartment in one piece. It has its own storage area back there, so the luggage volume remains constant at 270 litres no matter where the roof is.
