| Toyota Prius Recall | ||

(Tue 09 Feb 10) As has been widely anticipated over the last few days, Toyota has now officially announced a recall of the Prius so that dealers can attend to an issue with the braking system. The work takes 40 minutes, is free of charge, and involves an upgrade to the ABS software which has been designed to improve brake feel when the ABS system is operating on bumpy or slippery roads.
The upgrade has already been applied to production cars built after January 27, so only cars built before that date are subject to the recall, though none built after are likely to have reached the UK yet. The recall affects only the current-generation Prius, not either of the first two models. Toyota GB has apologised to customers "for any concern this issue may cause" but insists that, since actual brake failure is not involved, the cars are safe to drive even in their current state. Around 8500 cars in the UK will be recalled, and registered keepers will be contacted by Toyota from information given by the DVLA. In the meantime, customers can contact Toyota Customer Relations on 0800 1388 744. |
